good news all around

Jon the great turned eight on Friday.

(That cupcake doesn’t look like much, but I made them from scratch, and they were GOOD.  Thomas thought so, too.)

Saturday, Jon was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It was an awesome day.  The kids sang in English with the chorus in Spanish — “Tal como tierra limpia cuando acaba de llover, yo quiero compartarme bien y con mi Dios volver.”  Very moving and so memorable to experience these life moments in a foreign country.

After the baptism, Matt took Jon to pick out his birthday present:

Cute Charlie, the conejito.  I feel a little bad for the little guy living in this crazy house, but he seems to be adjusting.  Thomas likes to poke him and sample his water — “agua, agua!”

Also on Saturday, we FINALLY got our van back from the body shop — 7 WEEKS after the accident.  Please don’t ever complain about things being a hassle in the U.S.  It’s all a matter of degrees, right?  I’ve never been so happy to see a vehicle in my life.

Just after I learned the word “milagros” we heard about this one.  I was sure those poor miners were dead by now.  Our God is a God of miracles.  Truly.  Click on that link to see the joyous pictures — has this been in the news much in the U.S.?  Very big news here of course, and Matt’s company has been at the site helping drill.

Mary and I keep hearing this sweet song on the radio — does anyone know it?  Three guesses why we like it.  I can’t post the real video — did you know that not only can websites tell what country I am in, but lots of content is blocked because of licensing restrictions?  No Pandora, no Hulu, no “official” videos on Youtube.  Annoying.  But this is a good news post, so whatever.

Final piece of good news?  My dear, dear sister-in-law Jill is pregnant!  This is a milagro too, as some of you may know.  Makes me miss my family, though!

On all counts, we are just bursting with gratitude around here.  And hopefully, I’ll find time to keep sharing the good news and the adventures.

Haha! Do you realize that you are the first of the Lamberts besides us to get any sort of a pet? Cute little thing! Hope you enjoy your long-awaited spring! I’m not sure I’m ready for fall here, the summer has been so mild. We’ve rarely gone over 90 all summer and haven’t even touched 100. Looks like John had a great birthday and baptism. Our kids were really sad to be missing out on that, and have been missing you each time we get together. Comes with the territory, I guess!

    Matt and Liz,
We are envious and pray that your experience will be full of great blessings. Our good friends, Nick and Gloria Aste have been asked to return to Chile to help set up Social Services in Chile. They spent three years there and returned home last summer and came home to retire.. but the Church needs them to go back so they will…

Your kids are growing. WE love all of you. Jill’s news was incredible and surely a milagro. Que Dios les bendiga! Con mucho carino… Glenn and Carol.

Yeah for Jon. Ava is so excited to be baptized, she’s counting down. I will have to show her the pictures of Jon.
The miners were on the front page of the Wall Street Journal today. I read about it and wondered if Matt’s company was involved.

Great update. Congratulations to Jon on his baptism. Very touching to read about the miners. And Emma was just asking for a conejito today (well, she didn’t really say conejito).
